Traveline Cymru will be helping Rhondda commuters plan sustainable summer journeys at the Big Welsh Bite in Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Pontypridd.
The public transport information service in Wales will be on hand at the popular food and agricultural festival on 2nd and 3rd August to raise awareness of the benefits of using public transport this summer.
With 13 percent of the UK’s total greenhouse gas emissions coming from car usage, Traveline Cymru is urging those planning summer breaks in the UK to make the switch to public transport to help lower their carbon footprint.
Research has shown that CO² emissions per passenger for train and coach are, on average, six to eight times lower than car travel.
Traveline Cymru will be providing visitors to the two-day annual event with all the travel information they need for a sustainable journey this summer, as well as entering them into a competition to win an iPod shuffle.
Graham Walter, General Manager of Traveline Cymru said: “We’re looking forward to attending the Big Welsh Bite and meeting local residents. We hope that we can help encourage people to think twice about driving their car this summer and instead opt for public transport.
“By making a small change to your travel patterns, you can make a big difference to your bank balance, your health and help the environment. If everyone switched just one car journey a month to bus, that would mean one billion fewer car journeys and a saving of two million tonnes of CO2.”
